This sauce sounds incredible! I'm allergic to tomatoes so I'm always looking for curry sauce bases that don't contain them, I can't wait to surprise my other half with this!

Not being Jewish, I've never cooked with Matzo meal. I've been wanting to give it a go, as a sort of culinary challenge, and I believe I have just found the perfect recipe!

I just wanted to let you know that I nominated your blog for a Food Stories Award (http://foodstoriesblog.com/food-stories-award/). I was nominated myself - the deal is that all nominees have to present 5 blogs that they like, and I chose yours (you can see my post here - I hope you like it: http://onelilvegan.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/who-me/).

You guys rock :) I'm totally obsessed with matzo balls so I'm making this recipe tonight! What an awesome idea.

Just made this and it is super delicious, the soup is rich and undeniably satisfying. unfortunately i couldn't find matzo mix and had to pass that up but the soup itself is great.

Great! I didn't make the matzo balls but added pre-made (hot) fallafel balls, that was just delicious

i just made this soup last night.. tweaked some things (as i always do with recipes): doubled the number of matzo balls and added some ginger. it was my first attempt at matzo and i think it was a huge success. great recipe! going to make it for family thanksgiving i think.

Too stoned

Tasted great, but wasn't a nice presentation. I might double the sauce and use a larger pot next time.

I have tried to make the matzo balls and they fall completely apart in the soup. I would love to make these for my vegan granddaughter. Any suggestions?

The Vegan Stoner said...

Hi Anonymous. Matzo balls can be fragile. If you're having trouble keeping them together, we recommend using a lower heat and/or not cooking them for as long. You can also add flour to the matzo mix before cooking them.

I also recommend doubling the recipe, but keep the same # of matzo balls. My matzo balls also fell apart, maybe chilling for only 30 min wasn't enough before adding them to the soup? Great flavor though!

So... I made this for me & my friends' first Passover dinner and the balls kinda just fell apart when they were supposed to be cooking. I'm so sad. But I'm looking forward to the actual soup. Any suggestions for next year?

Fabulous, thank you

Hi Erin,

Sorry to hear this didn't work out for you. We are thinking of changing the instructions a little.

Try adding the soup in the pot first, then gently placing the matzo balls in the pot. Also, try cooking the soup on low heat and try to prevent the soup from boiling or bubbling heavily.

Hope this helps.

Just made this & duper yum! But i used a matzo ball mix & followed the directions by boiling the balls in H2O first. Nice & puffy.

You guys inspired me to make a sweet potato version of your soup (i only had 50% of the ingredients). It was awesome, thanks!
